- A fertile spot in a desert, where water is found.
Lake Havasu definitely fits this description. After driving through the desert and seeing the amazing Pisgah Crater and all that lava and ash from long ago. We pulled into the Lake Havasu area. It looks the same until all of a sudden on the horizon one see's this amazing blue water appear. And Lake Havasu is there, suddenly this beautiful aqua blue lake is just sitting there, smack dab in the middle of the desert. It's shocking to see this blue water in contrast with the surrounding dark rocky mountains.
Lake Havasu City is in western Arizona. It’s known as a base for trails in the nearby desert and water sports on Lake Havasu was formed by the construction of the Parker Dam from 1934-1938. The reservoir created nearly 450 miles of shoreline and was filled to its capacity of 211,000,000 gallons of water in 1940-1942. In 1963 Robert McCullogh, owner of McCullogh motors, was flying over lake Havasu looking for a place to test his outboard engines he thought that the land surrounding lake Havasu had great potential for an emerging city. The city was established in 1963. His partner was C.V. Wood who had designed Disneyland in California. Together they developed the area.
