Putah Canyon Campground - Berryessa Lake California 9.24.21

After escaping the Fawn fire in the Mount Shasta area, we drove down heading towards Sacramento and Martha found this spot. It was a harrowing drive around hundreds of switch backs covered in smoky, charred trees. Man, this area is so unlucky when it comes to fire destruction over the years. But this area is so VERY lucky in the beauty and scenic vistas one can enjoy. We finally arrived to the camping area and setup on a scorching hot afternoon in Putah Canyon. The lake is very low due to to the multi-year drought. But the smell of evergreen trees was intoxicating. We set up (were getting to be pros now!), strolled around inhaled in the austere beauty of the area. While roughing it, we grilled our steaks and  peaches for desert. The heat was very intense - around 95-  and we had a miserable night inside the camper with no hookups. We tried to run the small fan but were worried about depleting the batteries so we decided to just endure it. THANKFULLY late into the night the temp dropped considerably and we got a few hours of good sleep. Took off early the next am and drove through many more seriously narrow mountain roads and made it down to Napa valley and wine country!
